3) Pg 777 Cutting down alongside - pavement (originally
this was done to clear the grave w - [?])
we found (see photo) that it was
regularly built against - sloping side o - shaft.
- slope o wch was 012 in 150 = the walling was
about 130 high, made w smaller stones
below & larger above, Digging down past - top we found first a
fairly level "pavement", sunk in places, o greenish
clay (photo) : below this came stone,
- whole area being covered w rough stone blocks
set in a very tenacious clay w much mixture
o ferruginous clay & some [?kiln?]. In one place
on remaining - clay between - stones we found
- hollow below extending for some200 sq &
in this cd be distinguished remains o 2 bits
o wood, one a pole not more than 007 in diam, & 2 clay |

![]() | PG/777 | A built chamber tomb with a collapsed dome, it had been robbed in antiquity but some artifacts remained along the walls. The collapsed roof of this tomb was first seen in Trial Trench E but the grave was fully excavated after the trial trenches had been opened into a larger area. This led to the discovery of a small trenched area next to the chamber that contained three skeletons, and an approach or dromos that contained another. These Woolley took to be the guards of the tomb in a small 'death pit'. There were two chambers inside the tomb, and the outer held the remains of four more people, possibly servants, while the inner may have held the royal personage. | (none) |
