Pg 580 TTE For an area measuring some 700x400 there lay at a depth of almost 550 below - surface two layers of matting : between these the whole area was full of objects in copper & gold : at one end came the gold spear & chisels , towards- other end the gold dagger : between came beads, & everywhere there were spears & arrows generally in clusters as if complete quivers had been laid on the ground The silver belt was 135 long & 005 wide : without the ring width was 008 across in - ground a film of silver lay about half a centimetre or less outside - main band as if the latter had had an additional plating which had been detached - this was for them to stand & was removed. against - outside o- belt just above - handle o- dagger were 3 gold nails against - silver but not apparently fastened into it : possibly these had been fastened to - outer plate. |

![]() | PG/580 | This grave was cut by Trial Trench E at the end of one season and excavation was not completed until the following season. It was a time when Woolley was only just recognizing the royal graves as a separate type in the cemetery. The wealth of objects uncovered here led him to suspect it was 'royal' but there were many problems with the condition of the grave and the circumstances of excavation that have led to confusion. After this discovery, Woolley decided to abandon the trial trench method and open the entire cemetery area. He also began to map individual graves. | (none) |
