Description: 

The Seleucid Empire was a Hellenistic stated ruled by the Selucid Dynasty.  It was founded by Seleucus I Nicator following the division on Alexander the Great’s Empire.   In the height of its power, it stretched from the Mediterranean to India, Central Turkey to the Persian Gulf. The empire was a major center of Hellenistic culture that maintained the preeminence of Greek customs where Greek political elite dominated.  The period ended with the overthrow of the Empire by the Roman general Pompey.
