Uruk
The term is used to describe the culture of southern Mesopotamia represented by objects excavated at the site of Uruk that date to approximately 4000 BC-3000 BC.
Description:
The Uruk Period existed from the Chalcolithic to the Early Bronze Age, following the Ubaid, and succeeded by the Jemdat Nasr period. This period takes its name from the city of Uruk, and saw the emergence of urban life in city-states. The later Uruk Period saw the emergence of the cuneiform script, copper working, and the use of cylinder seals.
