A very highly fired clay based ware that is decorated with opaque and colored glazes.  It is fired to the point of vitrification, where the silicates in the clay begin to melt and turn into glass.

It is defined as a material made from powdered quartz covered with a vitreous coating usually in a transparent blue or green glass.  It is more porous than glass and can be cast in molds to create vessels or objects.
