Context Title: Room 9
Context Name (Publication): Room 91
Context Description: This opened out of Room 9, a passage-like room having doorways also to Room 10 and to the chapel (5); it was brick-paved. The NE wall of the house, against which the room lay, was not a party-wall but was backed on the outer wall of No. 4 Straight Street. The foundations of the latter were not so deeply laid as those of No. 4 Paternoster Row and here actually overlapped the projecting footings of its burnt brickwork; the Paternoster Row house must therefore have been the earlier of the two, but there were rights of ownership which prevented the builders of the Straight Street house from utilising the existing wall in their own construction.2
